Traffic Reminder Concerning Emergency Response Vehicles

Your community is served by dedicated and efficient emergency services crews and your safety and security depends on their ability to swiftly answer calls for help.

When you are operating a vehicle; car, truck, motorcycle, specialty vehicle, golf cart, or even bicycle, it is important that you properly yield to emergency vehicles.

An emergency vehicle can be a police car, fire truck, or an ambulance. Whichever type of emergency vehicle it is and where ever it may be heading, it is important that you follow the following procedures:
· When approached by an emergency vehicle (regardless of your direction of travel) displaying visual and or audible warning signals, pull to the right as far as safely possible and come to a complete stop. If you are in an intersection, safely clear the area watching for the movement of the emergency vehicles as well as others trying to clear the area.
· Remain calm and do not make erratic or panic moves such as slamming on the brakes or quickly swerving.
· Double check to make sure no additional vehicles are approaching before pulling back onto the road. Once you are back on the road, do not follow emergency vehicles any closer than 500 feet.
